Cardiac Arrest Caught on Gym CCTV Inspires Life-Saving Mission

Emily Counter, famous for viral SCA video while at her gym, joins LivCor.

EMILY Counter's passion for heart health has led to an ambassadorship with a new technology that could revolutionise cardiac arrest survival rates.

The 21-year-old has been campaigning for more access to defibrillators since CCTV footage of her sudden cardiac arrest at a Sunshine Coast gym went viral online.
Ms Counter has now recovered from her Cardiac Arrest and is more passionate than ever about saving lives.

Emily has partnered with LivCor, which is currently assisting with the development of a miniaturised and affordable automatic external defibrillator (AED).
The new partnership was celebrated on Restart a Heart Day on October 16.
Managing director of LivCor, John Haines, has given Ms Counter her own AED machine ahead of the new unit's release.

"I realised that she didn't actually own an automated external defibrillator, which horrified me", Mr Haines said.

"As a result, I immediately offered her an AED that easily adjusts for adults and children.
Survival rates are appalling, despite the best efforts of dedicated professionals and volunteers alike", he said.

For every minute without defibrillation, you lose 10 per cent probability of survival.
The only thing that will save you is initially CPR to maintain you while someone is hunting for a defibrillator.

Mr Haines said the new unit in development (once certified) will revolutionise cardiac arrest survival rates.

Ms Counter said she was excited for the new technology and was grateful to be part of something that could save thousands of lives.

"I'm very passionate about it, from my experience", she said.

"The more I can do, the more lives are saved."
